Placement Tests

Once admitted, students may be required to take placement exams in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Those accepted to Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Medicine are exempt from these examinations.

Mathematics placement test

A Mathematics placement test is required for all students at the Technion. The test is a prerequisite for all math courses in the first year.

Exempt from the test:

  1. Students in the Medicine, Architecture, and Landscape Architecture programs.
  2. AP test in calculus BC, with a grade of at least 4.
  3. French BAC series S with a grade in math of at least 14.
  4. IB certificate with a high level math grade of at least 5.

Physics placement test

A Physics placement test is required for all students at the Technion. The test is a prerequisite for all physics courses in the first year.

Exempt from the test:

  1. Students in the Medicine, Architecture, and Landscape Architecture programs.
  2. French BAC series S with physics a grade of at least 10.
  3. AP test in physics C both parts, grade of at least 4.
  4. IB certificate with high level physics, with a grade at least 5.
  5. Students with prior studies in physics at high school or college level may submit diplomas and syllabi to Prof. Soker, Department of Physics, for consideration.

The Physics test has two parts: mechanics and electricity. Each part is about 2.5 hours. You may choose to do both on the same day or test on separate dates.

Chemistry placement test

The test is required for students in the following programs:

Education in Biology and Environmental Studies, Materials Engineering and Biology, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Food Engineering, Biology, Environmental Engineering, Biochemistry Engineering.

A chemistry placement test is required for all students at the Technion in the programs above. The test is a prerequisite for chemistry courses in the first year.
